Join us for this installment in a series of conversations with global health faculty at Stanford. This event features Dr. Matt Strehlow discussing his career and research in a presentation titled, “Anyone, Anytime, Anything – Building Emergency Care From the Outside In.”
About Dr. Strehlow
Dr. Matthew Strehlow is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University and a national and internationally recognized educator and innovator on emergency care development globally. He has lived and worked in Africa and Asia, focusing on seeding emergency care systems with the aim of improving access to emergency healthcare services and identifying ways to reimagine emergency care infrastructure as tools within the broader health system.
His research focuses on the epidemiology of emergencies in developing countries, emergency maternal and child referral systems, scalable in-service education, and the intersection of emergency care systems and gender-based violence.
Dr. Strehlow serves as Vice Chair of Strategy for the Department of Emergency Medicine as well as Director of Stanford Emergency Medicine International (SEMI). As a Fellow at the Center for Innovation in Global Health and as an advisor to Stanford’s Digital Medic initiative, he works across the campus to help advance the University’s mission of improving health and education worldwide.
Dr. Michele Barry, MD, FACP, Director of the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, will provide the introduction. The Q&A will be moderated by Wasan Kumar, Stanford medical student and Organization for Global Health co-chair.
